WHY-ARE-THE-CHIEFS-CONSIDERED-THE-BEST-TEAM-IN-THE-NFL-IN-2024-1

Kansas City Chiefs fans are still celebrating their Super Bowl LVIII triumph. The team has grabbed its third Super Bowl title in five years against the formidable San Francisco 49ers.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a long and impressive history in the NFL. Over the years, they’ve had many great teams, some of them were able to win championships while others came close.

The 2023 team has added to this legacy by winning the Super Bowl, just like the 1969, 2019, and 2022 teams.

They are also the ninth team ever, and the first in 20 years, to win back-to-back titlesBut ever wondered how this team has managed to do so, and why the Chiefs are considered the best team in the NFL 2024 too?

To get the answer, you have to dig a little deeper into the details of their success story.

Stats that Show Chiefs is the Best Team in NFL 2024

The Chiefs won their second Super Bowl in a row in the year 2023, making history. With this win, they now have four Super Bowl trophies, which is impressive because only four teams have won more.

There are also lots of interesting stats about the Chiefs, their latest season, and their quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

  • They’re the very first team to take down four of the top six scoring offenses during a postseason streak. Pretty impressive, right?
  • The Chiefs’ defense was outstanding throughout the entire season! In all 21 of their games (17 regular season, four postseason), they kept opponents to 28 points or less, surpassing the previous record of 19.
  • In the last five years, the Chiefs won three Super Bowls, even though they were down by 10 points in each game. That’s not common in the Super Bowl; it’s only happened seven times ever!
  • Mahomes has an impressive playoff win percentage of (15-3, .833). This ranks him second in NFL history, just behind the Packers’ Bart Starr, who has a record of (9-1, .900).
  • For the past three decades, no quarterback had achieved a perfect 8-for-8 or better passing with 27 or more rushing yards on any single drive. It all changed when Mahomes accomplished this remarkable feat during overtime of the Super Bowl.
  •  Till Week 7 of the 2023 season, the Chiefs were the only team since the ’99 Rams to rank in the top 5 in offense, defense, and special teams. (No. 4 offense, No. 5 defense, No. 2 special teams).

Chiefs’ Best NFL Championships

Let’s dive into the Chief’s finest NFL Championship moments over the years! Ranking these teams from different eras is a challenging task, with things like free agency and salary caps affecting how the team performed.

1. Chiefs (2023)

Overall Game Record: 15-6

The Chiefs were on fire this season. The team showed its strength by taking down the AFC’s top-two seeds on the road. Their defense was the backbone of their success, led by stars like Chris Jones, George Karlaftis, and Trent McDuffie.

Under the guidance of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, they’ve clinched the second-ranked scoring defense in the regular season.

The Chiefs’ dominance was actually showcased in the postseason, where they restricted the Ravens to just 10 points and thrashed 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

But it’s not just the defense shining bright. Their offense also stepped up, especially the receiving corps which faced heavy criticism earlier.

Rookies like Rashee Rice and veterans like Marquez Valdes-Scantling have elevated their game, with Mecole Hardman delivering the game-winning touchdown pass in the Super Bowl.

Of course, the Chiefs’ offense wouldn’t be complete without the brilliance of Mahomes, the reliability of Travis Kelce, and the contributions of Isiah Pacheco.

And let’s not forget the solid protection provided by Pro Bowlers Creed Humphrey and Joe Thuney on the offensive line.

Mahomes continues to etch his name in NFL history, becoming the fifth starting quarterback with at least three Super Bowl wins. The 2023 Chiefs were truly a powerhouse to watch!

2. Chiefs (2022)

Overall game record: 17-3

The 2022 Chiefs didn’t rely on flashy stats to show their worth. Instead, they proved they could be champions even without Tyreek Hill, who was traded to Miami Dolphins in the off season.

They overcame challenges as a strong unit, defeating the defending AFC champions, the Bengals. Mahomes was playing the season with an ankle injury. Their depth in skill positions was the key to their Super Bowl victory.

Each player was trying to catch touchdowns from Mahomes, who had a historic season. Mahomes made history as the only player to win Super Bowl MVP and regular-season in the same year on multiple occasions.

3. Chiefs (2020)

Overall game record: 16-3

In Super Bowl LV, the Chiefs lost to the Buccaneers mainly because their offensive line had too many injuries. This left Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs’ quarterback, running around a lot to avoid getting tackled by the Buccaneers.

On the other hand, Tom Brady, the Buccaneers’ quarterback, had a great game. He threw three touchdowns and completed 21 out of 29 passes against the Chiefs’ defense in the game and led his team to the Super Bowl win.

4. Chiefs (2019)

Overall game record: 15-4

The 2019 season was truly an unforgettable one for the Kansas City Chiefs. They pulled off something incredible in the playoffs as they were the first team ever to come back from 10-point deficits in three straight games.

In one game, they were down 24-0 against the Texans but Mahomes and the crew rallied with 41 unanswered points. They also scored 35 against a tough Titans defense in the AFC Championship game

The Chiefs bagged the Super Bowl title by putting up 31 points, including three touchdowns in the last seven minutes. Their defense also stepped up big time, and held Derrick Henry to just 69 yards.

5. Chiefs (1969)

Overall game record: 14-3

Let’s revisit the unforgettable moments of Super Bowl IV in which the mighty Chiefs dominated the field with the AFL’s top-notch offense and a solid defense.

The team was led by legends like coach Hank Stram and owner Lamar Hunt. They made history by taking down the strong Vikings with an amazing 23-7 victory.

This legendary Chiefs’ team had eight Hall of Famers. Six of these superstars were defensive geniuses. Led by the remarkable Willie Lanier, this Chiefs’ defense held their playoff opponents to just 6, 7, and 7 points in three epic wins.

Len Dawson, who was another Hall of Famer, led the team to victory with a game-winning touchdown pass to Otis Taylor.

6. Chiefs (1966)

Overall game record: 12-3-1

The 1966 Chiefs was a team packed with talent just like the legendary ’69 squad. They dominated the AFL season and triumphed in the championship game against the Bills.

But their biggest challenge in Super Bowl I was against the NFL champion Packers. Despite a strong start, an interception turned the game around. Yet, even in defeat, the Chiefs earned respect from their opponents like Hall of Famer Dave Robinson.

Conclusion

The Kansas City Chiefs are considered the best team in NFL 2024, with their recent Super Bowl victories and impressive stats.

Led by Patrick Mahomes, they are setting the standard for excellence in football, making them a hard-to-beat team in 2024.

I have also discussed their previous Super Bowl wins and participations that show, even though the teams change, their spirit soar high.
